Hello there, thanks for stopping by.
I'm Deborah and here are a few things I'd like you to know about my work:

PAINTING ARTIST STATEMENT

I am fascinated by the molecular machinery that runs all living things, and captivated by the arrangement and processes by which elementary particles assemble to form increasingly complex systems. My interest lies less in the 'things' themselves, and more with the patterns which emerge at each level of the organizational hierarchy; from energy to atoms, macromolecules, organelles, cells, organisms, and finally ecosystems. Inherent differences within each organizational level result in a new emergent property and therefore new characteristics.

In my work I distill this complex framework into a visual rhythm. Each pattern and emergent property is then linked and anchored to their context within a larger ecosystem.

Continuing the theme of emergence in my process, I use both modern monotype techniques and traditional oil painting techniques to build the painting in multiple layers, each with its own rule of construction

PHOTOGRAPHY ARTIST STATEMENT

I'm a hiker turned photographer, just trying to capture what caught my eye or the light that takes my breath away.

GRAPHIC DESIGN ARTIST STATEMENT

I believe successful graphic design is about more than aesthetics alone. Its also about capturing a viewer's attention, communicating a message, and encouraging the target audience to feel something. This requires listening, concept development, attention to detail, and completing the project on time.
